KC Fail Again (again)
August 11th, 2008Title says all!
KCom, previously known as Kingston Communications, lost all internet access on Saturday afternoon at 3pm and was not able to restore it until 10pm that evening.
KCom, which has an effective monopoly in Hull, said it had engineers working on the problem and to ensure it does not happen again. The last time this happened the city was plagued with intermittent faults for much of the following week.
Business and residential customers were affected, as were communications between hospitals.

Houses, Questions, Things, Stuff
June 20th, 2008Well …. today at work wasn’t as bad as I’d anticipated it to be …. but the least said about why the better!!
Let’s just say: BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP! Seems he was quite lucky in the end ….
I have an empty house this week so I’m doing lots in the house while there is noone to trip over (and noone to complain that “it looks messy” or “doesn’t belong there”) !
This weekend is radio demo weekend, I’m going to be trying to create a radio demo or two to try get my arse a job at a radio station of some kind, most likely one of the small locals or community stations where they don’t have the big “thou shalt conform to the Britney Spears culture” policy. Question is though ……… what on earth do I do?
Feels so weird doing a radio ’show’ with no obvious objective. There’s no live listener on the other end; because of this my brain refuses to click into the right mode in order to spew out the blurb that you’d expect to hear on radio.
Still …. I still have to actually set the kit up downstairs yet so hopefully I’ll have shifted into a more suitable mood once it’s all connected up.
Questiontime!!!!!
I run Linux. Love it. The Gnome rocks my world. BUT.
I listen to a lot of mix CDs (CDs where one track flows into the next, flows into the next …)
Does ANYONE know of a good CD player that doesn’t add huge gaps inbetween each track?
First person to say Windows Media Player gets a backhander!
Adios peeps, I’m off to make some dinner!
Friday … aaahhh …
May 9th, 2008Well here i am on a Friday night, nice and chilled perched on a chair by the kitchen table, actually feeling quite content. I think it’s the sunshine!
As it’s now 21:20 by the cooker clock, the sun has gone to bed finally so my lil baby eeePC just had to come out. ![]()
I’ve just installed WinXP SP2 on the eee with the absolute AMAZEMENT at just how much space it’s eaten of this baby 4GB drive. 2.25GB was allocated to the Windows partition thinking ‘pah, that’ll be plenty’. Nope. Just the Service Pack 3 to go and 219 meg remaining ……. I think I’ll forget installing that OpenOffice.org 3 beta! A funky little tool I’ve discovered is GParted, a partitioning tool. Yeah, partitioning tools are everywhere but this one is neat in that it boots off a Live CD or Live USB … not only that, it supports every filesystem you can think of and most of all, it’s free.
Aha! The service pack has downloaded now so I’m off to try squeeze it on! Otherwise GParted will be brought out a second time … wish me luck!
Scientology
January 27th, 2008After all the recent hubbub on the internet that is a group calling themselves ‘Anonymous‘ launching attacks on the ‘Church’ of Scientology, here’s the best quote I have ever read:
World of Warcraft; It’s not real, and costs $15 per month for unlimited play time.
Scientology; It’s not real, and costs $200 per session.
Not a truer word said.
Oh, for those who dont know what happened, Anonymous basically decided to launch a geekattack on the ‘Church’s website and leave messages on the internet, mainly on YouTube as seen below…
and
http://www.calloftheday.com/ for more info.
Agh!
January 24th, 2008Yeah! Uhh …. new website? Kinda?
In short, lots of hosting changes meant that I lost the old database. Oops.
Ah well, I’ll get this place redecorated soon …
